Allyship should be deeply uncomfortable - a comfortable ally, isn't an ally. If this feels like you - thats okay, come along to get uncomfortable with us so we can all be show up better for communities that aren't our own. Learn to act beyond performative gestures and virtue-signalling by confronting ourselves, honestly.


Outline:

Authentic allyship requires reflection, action, and accountability. This interactive 60-mintue workshop invites participants to face the uncomfortable truths of allyship and anti-racism, exploring how race, gender, and power shape responsibilities in professional and community spaces.

Through the Better Allies model, participants will gain a practical framework for meaningful action, while identifying and addressing common barriers to effective allyship, including tokenism, performative allyship, virtue signalling, and the good-bad binary. The session also covers strategies to foster psychological safety in teams, organisations, and communities, and explores bystander intervention techniques in both online and in-person scenarios.


Who is it for?

This is an entry-level course at level 1. Attendees do not need expansive knowledge of gender-based violece, anti-racism or allyship. Attendees will gain introductory knowledge through this course.


What will I learn?

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what authentic allyship looks like and why it’s essential for equity (not equality) and inclusion.
  • Explore the Better Allies model as a practical framework for meaningful action.
  • Recognize common barriers to effective allyship - including tokenism, performative allyship, virtue signalling and the good-bad binary.
  • Identify strategies to foster psychological safety in teams, organisations, and communities.
  • Examine how race, gender, and power intersect to shape allyship dynamics and responsibilities.
  • Commit to bystander intervention techniques in both online and in-person scenarios.
  • Face the uncomfortable journey of allyship and anti-racism.
