Counselling, Psychotherapy and Trauma Studies Seminar Series 2017/18

Presented by Kate Hayes

Summary
Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD) is a person-centred experiential approach to working with depression in the NHS. PCE-CfD courses have been running at the University of Nottingham since 2011. The first ‘in house’ training was hosted in January 2013. Since then there have been twenty eight courses run in Nottingham, Coventry, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. Over 100 people have completed successfully gaining the CfD licence. Over 150 more are expected to complete by 2018.In this presentation I offer a history and an overview of the courses, with the opportunity to watch a demonstration and reflect on what seems similar and what seems unfamiliar for a person-centred experiential approach to counselling.

Biography
Kate Hayes has been a person-centred counsellor since 1996. Over the last 22 years she has mainly worked in free on delivery services as an employed counsellor and supervisor. Alongside her work as a counsellor and supervisor she has maintained involvement in education working in a variety of universities that ran person-centred courses at various levels. This means she has continued with her own research and writing and has been keen to maintain the profile of the person-centred approach within the NHS and free on delivery services. Issues of social justice and equality have formed her underlying dedication to the approach, as she considers it is an approach that rigorously matches her own values and ethical stance.

Refreshments will be available.
