Event description

Description

Please join us for a very special eco-connective walking/creating workshop.

The workshop will be run by internationally renowned land and eco-artist Chris Drury and writer-poet Kay Syrad at the beautiful Vert Woods in Laughton, East Sussex.

This will be a walking, sitting, lying down experiential workshop where participants will be encouraged to look at the big and the small, the inner and the outer, the microcosm in relation to the macrocosm. In the spirit of being-with a place, without over-privileging the human in relation to the non-human, we will listen, touch, gather objects, construct small ephemeral artworks; record and make sounds, write, perhaps create a forest-language.

The workshop will provide a springboard for participants to continue to create in their own time using whatever means and materials that have presented themselves.

Bring cameras, notebooks, pens, pencils, etc. plus a flask and a snack.

We will also offer the opportunity after the formal Workshop has ended some extra private time - to try out your own creativety via photography, painting-drawing, simple land-art and words. This is optional.

Chris Drury is a Land Artist who has worked on every continent, including Antarctica. He works directly with landscapes or situations, collaborating with a range of people from different disciplines - scientists and doctors, small indigenous communities - using materials and means that are appropriate to the context. The forms he uses are often universal and archaic – circles, spirals, vortices, and architectural, simple domed spaces. In 2018, he was awarded the Lee Krasner Lifetime’s Achievement Award from the Pollock Krasner Foundation in New York. www.chrisdrury.co.uk

Kay Syrad is a poet, novelist and editor. She is also an experienced tutor in creative writing, with a special interest in eco-poetry. Her next Eco-poetics course (with Clare Whistler) will run at Knepp Wildland in West Sussex in June/July, and then at the London Poetry School in the autumn. www.kaysyrad.co.uk
