It's escape from reality time folks, pure and simple. Leave your baggage at home and step into the realm of magic and wonder where good and evil will rub shoulders like you have never seen in Ireland before in the Great Elmwood Hall for BAFW's FAIRYTALE & GORE event on Tuesday 15th November.
Belfast's "HOGWARTS" AKA The Elmwood Hall is a former Presbyterian Church, on University Road in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is situated opposite Queen's University Belfast. There will be a Unicorn to great everyone in the front garden where Crafty Belfast will also be having their very own quirky Tea Party showing off their unique and exceptionally fascinating style of clothing and culture led by Emma Giles.
This lure of surrealism is only an appetiser of whats to come. When you break on through to the other side and step into this ancient Hogwarts like realm that is covered in gargoyles and angels you will bare witness to some of the best Fairytale & Gore special effects make up there is for miles around as our very own N.Ireland super talent Robert King shows us how it's done. The amazing talent of MUA Julia Clements will also be onboard leading this team of fantastic fantasy fanatics to the inner dome of doom and delight. Julia introduces us also to fantastic up and coming SFX artists Leanne Godfrey from Coleraine, Michael Browne from Kilkenny, Darragh McShane MUA from Newry, Lauren Mcmahon from Burren also Derek Harvey Makeupfrom Clonmel.Designers will include Belfast's David Henderson & Shauna Fay, Kat O'strophic Dublin.
All this carnage and delight will be supported with a backdrop of live music provided by Linley Hamilton and Friends who will play a series of Jazz compositions. Jazz was once regarded as " DEVIL MUSIC" and over time has transcended from the fiery chasm to a heavenly angelic plateau fitting perfectly with this events landscapes. Matthew Benson & the " Fat Lip " brass band will be playing Phantom of the Opera among other compositions of good and evil themes in the balcony area of this natural amphitheatre overlooking the audience and coaxing the mood.
A very sweet selection of ACE Models will be walking like the dead and loving it while others will be footloose and fairytale free such as the very attractive Olympian turned model Chloe Aboud from Dublin, Heather Mclean of Bangor, Sebastian Pawlik of Bangor.The petite and very pretty Torii Wilson and many more ACE models will entertain you in this eccentrically exciting extravaganza engineered to enlighten and frighten the wits and wonder out of you.
The awesome "WE CANCERVIVE" is a survivors of cancer organisation led by Joan Mccartney. These inspirational people will be rampaging and frolicking throughout this entire week of Belfast Alternative Fashion Week as they promote the fact that early diagnosis in cancer does work and should be the forefront priority one practise of our national health service. These wonderful people not only prove to us that early diagnosis works but inspire us to take action. They mean business and they are going ALL OUT on Belfast Alternative Fashion Week. This gig is just the warm up they are on a mission of all missions. MAKE EARLY DIAGNOSIS HAPPEN !
