Beltane is delighted to host this event in partnership with Scotland's Futures Forum
Scotland's 2014 Referendum on Independence is a great hook for researchers wishing to engage with non-specialist audiences. However, it creates some challenging questions:
- What if journalists - and politicians - twist what I say?
- Will I get into trouble with my university if I go public with findings that could be argued to strengthen or weaken the argument for Independence?
- Should I ever reveal my personal politics?
It's easy to understand why some academics have chosen to avoid engaging at all, but this needn't be the case. Charlie Jeffery (Vice Principal Public Policy and Impact, University of Edinburgh) and Donald Jarvie (Head of Business, Finance and Events, Scotland's Futures Forum) will offer advice on how to engage while preserving your integrity.
