Event description
We're delighted to welcome singer song-writer Ben Cipolla back to Beaudesert Park! In this next concert, he will be supported by Cafe Spice.

About this Event

BEN CIPOLLA

Ben Cipolla is a Wiltshire-born singer-songwriter, and has recently moved to Manchester. His singing has been compared to “having liquid chocolate dripped in your ears,” and his distinctive upbeat and percussive guitar style is inspired by the likes of Nick Drake and Jack Johnson.

Over the past five years, he has performed annually at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, which has hugely supported his development as an artist. He has since been really fortunate to have worked with some top jazz musicians, such as Clare Teal, who has given him solo opportunities at the BBC Swing Jazz Prom, and with the CBSO and RLPO. Clare says his songs are “an exhilarating mix of different moods, tones and flavours, beautifully crafted and musically nutritious!” Jazz vocalist Ian Shaw has also described his music as being “simply great” with “fresh words, good stories and ace musicianship.”

In 2020, Cipolla (meaning onion in Italian) will be releasing his next album, Sicilia, which reflects his excitement for discovering his Sicilian roots, all while falling in love himself. The album also encompasses the emotions people go through when adapting to a new country, much like his grandparents experienced when leaving Sicily for exotic Stoke-on-Trent. So he hopes to inspire audiences of all ages to explore their own heritage from his thought-provoking lyrics and humour on stage.

CAFE SPICE

From England, Ireland and Scotland, three musicians met in Manchester in the winter of 2016. A few weeks later Café Spice was formed on a wet and windy night in a curry house on the outskirts of Glasgow (a story for another time). Made up of Georgia Gage (Scotland), Niamh Feeney (Ireland) and Eleanor Lang (The North), Café Spice are a trio who create heavenly and Autumnal vocal harmonies reminiscent of the Mamas & Papas whilst also sitting with the effortlessly sublime indie-folk of contemporaries such as The Staves or HAIM.

2019 has been a good year for the trio. Fresh off the back of their first two singles, they’ve been travelling up and down the country in Niamh’s tiny car playing gigs in a myriad of venues and places. Fresh off the back of their third single, ‘Open Door’, they have recently performed at Sligo Live in Ireland. "If this song was a food it would be silky, viscous and rich golden honey poured over melted butter, probably from Waitrose.” Tom Robinson's Fresh on the Net, 2018
