Event description

Description

In my experience of leading children up Munros, they enjoy it so much more if they have other children to share the adventure with. I have deliberately chosen Ben Lawers as there is a good path all the way to the top, and lots of interesting things to look out for on the way.

Ben Lawers (1,214m) is the highest Munro in the southern highlands. Just over 400 of those meters are taken care of on your drive to the car park at the start. If, like me you love spotting plants and wildlife then this Munro will not disappoint. Ben Lawers is part of a National Nature Reserve. Many rare alpine plants nestle on the slopes, and if you are lucky you can spot red deer, ptarmigan, ravens, ring ouzels, skylarks and black grouse.
Once at the summit you are rewarded with fabulous views. On a clear day you can see the mountains of Glencoe and the Cairngorms. As we head down, there will be an option to make a wee de-tour and bag another Munro, Beinn Ghlas (1,013m), this will add 100m of climbing onto the day.
• I will meet you in the National Trust for Scotland Car park (GR 608 378) at 9:30am. Head to Killin on the A827, 3 miles further on from Killin take the left turn, signposted Ben Lawers 2 ½ miles. 45mins from Comrie.
• Moderate fitness is required.
• The walk is 10km, with 800m of ascent.
• I expect the walk to take between 5 and 6hrs.
• 10 places available.
• Minimum age 9yrs.
• Once you have booked your place, I will email further details and a recommended kit list for the day.
