Event description

Description

Ben Saunders, a leading polar explorer who in 2014 completed the longest ever polar journey on foot, announces his next expedition at The Royal Geographical Society, London, on 26 September 2017, in a conversation with Jeremy Paxman.

Paxman, a passionate polar history enthusiast, will interview Ben on his previous polar achievements, experiences and the announcement of his next audacious journey in one of the coldest places on earth.

Generously sponsored by Land Rover, all ticket proceeds from this event will go directly to The Endeavour Fund.

Ben Saunders is one of the world’s leading polar explorers, and a record-breaking long-distance skier who has covered more than 6,000km (3,700 miles) on foot in the Polar Regions since 2001.

In 2014 Ben completed The Scott Expedition – the longest human-powered polar journey in history, and the first completion of the expedition that defeated Captain Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton, a 105-day round-trip from Ross Island on the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole and back again. Ben is also the third person in history to ski solo to the North Pole, and holds the record for the longest solo Arctic journey by a Briton.

Ben has exciting plans for a major new expedition – starting in November – which he will announce at this event in a conversation with Jeremy Paxman (Owen Jones once said ”Most of us would prefer to be smothered in honey and locked in a room with a swarm of bad-tempered bees than suffer a 20-minute interrogation by Paxman”).

Ben is proud to be supporting The Endeavour Fund, part of The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, which supports wounded, injured and sick veterans through providing opportunities in sport and adventurous challenge.
