Description

The Unitarian Chapel & Forgotten Women of Wakefield presents
‘Beneath The Bodice – Sculpting the Self’ Artwalk Wakefield Night

This is part of the Clara Clarkson Events programme taking place throughout 2019.

Due to the nature of this event, it will be 16+ and free, although a ticketed event.

Who are we beneath the clothes that we choose to wear? And if we have no choice as to what to wear? Who are we? These performances explore the idea of Beauty and Love as explored by the underground Art Movement set up by Rev Cannon and some of the women from the chapel in the 18th century. It tells the story of how body image, represed, manipulated and subsumed into the power play set up by society is designed to imprison women, and men. Especially if those humans are already non-conformists to the image of what makes a 'good and respectible' member of society.

Clara Clarkson famously adapted her clothing in order to give subtle signals of non-conformity. This event explores how this continues today and is performed by actors from the Dream Time Creative Theatre Ensemble.

There will two showings of this part of the evening 6pm and 7:30pm

Come and watch artists participate in a live life drawing session thanks to Carl Hardwick and the life drawing members from Westgate Studios.

It is written, curated and directed by Sarah Cobham
