About this event

Join us for a series of workshops introducing the Bensham Bites community food and nature project. These workshops are for primarily for organisations and community workers working in Gateshead, but all are welcome to attend. This is an opportunity to find out about Bensham Bites and how your organisation can get involved with us to work towards developing a community food network. We have recently obtained funding from NLCF Award for All to continue Bensham Bites over the next two years and there will be opportunities to develop the project with us over this time .

1 July, 10-12noon, Arkle Street Allotments, Arkle Street, Gateshead, NE8 4YH

Join Herb Hub to explore how you can enhance the flavour of your food using locally grown herbs which also benefit our health and wellbeing. We will be creating herbal products to take home, with recipes to share with your organisation

1 August, 10-12 noon, St Chads Church, 195 Rawling Road, Gateshead, NE8 4QU

How can art help us join the spaces between pollinators, people and plates ? Join artist/beekeeper Barbara Keating for a playful, but very practical look at food preservation techniques such as dehydration, pickling and fermenting, as an artistic and community activity.

1 September, 10-12 noon, Comfrey Project, Chester Place, Gateshead, NE8 1QB

Visit the Comfrey Project and view their composting site and see different systems in action, from simple bins to wormeries and hot composters. Learn how to compost effectively at home or in your organisation, reduce waste, and return nutrients to the soil. Whether you’re a beginner or want to improve your current composting practice, this hands-on session will give you the skills and confidence to get started.

This part of Bensham Bites is funded by Gateshead Food Partnership: Food for People and Planet Funding.
