This session will provide initial training which will cover all aspects of the role going forward. There will also be an opportunity to meet with one of our existing Improvement Champions who will share her experience and answer any questions.
The power and potential of the BEP Peer Review programme model lies in the ability of clusters to identify excellent people who can take a lead on aspects of school and cluster improvement. The programme titles these people, ‘Improvement Champions’ and envisages that they will have already been involved in school improvement work. Improvement Champion will want to develop their skills and experience to become experts in recognising the key levers for school improvement, mapping good practice and facilitating post review workshops. They will be an invaluable catalyst for school improvement. They will also be key players in the clusters succession strategies – as potential future headteachers and system leaders.
The Improvement Champion role can provide opportunities for those aspiring to headship to take on wider responsibilities. This might be appropriate for someone who is already an SLE as well as for AHTs / deputy heads.
As a result of taking up this opportunity colleagues will be developed by BEP to be; knowledgeable about “good practice” across all Birmingham schools, articulate on a range of school improvement case studies and developed as skilled facilitators.
Through their initial training and subsequent activities to support their development, Improvement Champions will further benefit from:
- Ø Developing their skills to facilitate;
- Ø Challenge, coach and provide feedback;
- Ø Networking with a cadre of national Improvement Champions;
- Ø Training to lead Joint Practice Development;
- Ø Engaging in joint practice development with ICs from other clusters;
- Ø Access to a programme of workshops and seminars.
Please note that this training session is free to participants of the BEP Peer Review programe.
If your school is not a participant, there will be a charge of £350 per person.
