Event description

Description

'Anyone old enough to love is old enough to grieve” Alan Wolfelt (2016).

The aim of our Bereavement & Loss training day is to:

Provide participants with examples of various grief models, examining these from the perspective of children and young people.

Explore a child’s natural attachment process and the subsequent impacts of loss.

Offer insights into a child’s understanding of bereavement and loss at each developmental stage, identifying both how children and young people understand loss, and, how grief may manifest cognitively, affectively, emotionally and physically at each age bracket.

Trainees will get the chance to review case study examples of clinical work with children and young people who have experienced loss as a result of bereavement or parental separation. They will share strategies and resources to support children and families affected by loss. The training will encourage a degree of self-reflection from participants; considering how one’s own experiences of loss may influence one’s ability to support others, and knowing how to administer one’s own self-care.
