Dudley Council Public Health have organised an event to explore all aspects of bereavement including building resilience within compassionate communities and organisations. It will consider how bereavement impacts children, young people and their families and the workforce.

The day will involve

  1. Exploration of the impact of bereavement on children and young people with clinical insight from Dr Heidi Napier from Dudley Group of Hospitals and involving case studies from Dudley lived experiences.

  2. Consideration of the understanding of anticipatory grief.

  3. Recognising the impact of bereavement and its role in Adverse Childhood Experience. This will consider use of trauma informed practices to support bereaved children.

  4. Discussions to shape the development of a bereavement policy for Dudley Council and which other organisations can consider adopting.

  5. Identifying the training need of the workforce to support bereaved children and staff.

  6. Learning lessons from a serious case review.

  7. Launch of resources to support bereaved children.
