The Berkshire Junior Chess Association are again delighted to be hosting a chess tournament that is also a qualifier for the London Junior Chess Congress.
London Junior Chess Championships background
The London Junior Chess Championships originated in 1924 as the London Boys Championship. The championships are organised by The London Junior Chess Championship Charitable Trust, registered charity number 1129010. Titles are awarded for seven age groups, Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, Under 18 and Under 21.
Qualification
To play in the Under 8, Under 10 or Under 12 Finals you must first qualify, either via a qualifying tournament or by rating. Qualification is not required for the older age groups.
Finals
- 13 & 14 December : U10 and U14
- 28 - 30 December : U12, U16 and U18 / 21 / Open
- 29 & 30 December : U8
This Qualifying Tournament
Is open to all regardless of home location
Is for junior chess players who are younger than 12 on 31-Aug-25 (as no qualification is necessary to play in the older age groups)
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at the event
Will be played in three sections:
Sections may be combined based on entries received
Entry
Tournament entry fee: £19 - available to 22.00 on Thu 16-Oct-24
Late entry: £24 - available to 22.00 on Fri 17-Oct-24
Even later entry: £29 - available to 23.59 on Sat 18-Oct-24
On the day entry: £36 - available to 09:00 on Sun 19-Oct-24
Results will be submitted for ECF grading
Non-ECF members: +£3.00
Minimum Junior Gold membership required to avoid this additional fee
Photography
No photography is permitted within the playing area during play
Any photos taken are for private use only and not to be shared on any social media platform
Schedule
Each tournament consists of 6 rounds
Each section starts at 9.45 am
Each game will use Fischer timing
- Start with 20 minutes + 10 seconds per move

Facilities
Detailed instructions for the venue are emailed directly after purchasing a ticket
Play will take place in The School Hall and space will be provided for parents separately in the same building
