Facilitated by members of the LOC Committee:

This peer review session aims to help improve your standard of patient care by discussing cases based on real practice with a small group of fellow practitioners. The cases cover five scenarios: a new patient needing referral for multiple pathologies; a patient presenting as an emergency with a prolonged visual disturbance; a patient with visual impairment and dementia whose vision appears to have worsened; a pre presbyopic patient with display screen problems and a presbyopic patient with discomfort reading and vertical prisms. You will reflect on how others might have approached the situations. Consideration will be given to ensuring safe, effective patient management.

Suitable for Optometrists & Dispensing Opticians.

3 CPD Points have been awarded to this session.

8:05pm - 9:00pm, Glaucoma - A revised approach for Berkshire

Shreya Haldar, Consultant Ophthalmologist, Royal Berkshire Hospital

This lecture wll provide an overview of current NICE Guidelines for glaucoma. New procedures used in the treatment of glaucoma will be discussed, including tubes, stents and direct SLT which Optometrists may encounter in community practice. A new structural paradigm for services is being developed across West Berkshire and both Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians need to know how to most appropriately refer into glaucoma services and which patents need to be referred. This lecture will also discuss how to best deal with those secondary care glaucoma patients who are still waiting in the post-COVID backlog. Current good practice for glaucoma services will be explored so that optometrists and dispensing opticians can interact with the service appropriately and give good advice to patients they see in their day to day practice.

Suitable for Optometrists & Dispensing Opticians.
