A Berkshire Junior Chess Association Open Event - Chess Tournament.

The Tournament

  • Is open to all regardless of home location
  • Is for junior chess players who are younger than 18 on 31-Aug-25 (not just Under 11 players 🙂)
  • Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at the event
  • Sections will be determined by entries

Entry

Tournament entry fee: £11.50 - available to 22.00 on Friday 19-Sep-25

  • Late entry: +£5 - available to 19.00 on Saturday 20-Sep-25

Results will be submitted for ECF rating

  • Non-ECF members: +£3
  • Minimum Junior Gold membership required to avoid this additional fee

Photography

  • No photography is permitted within the playing area during play
  • Any photos taken are for private use only and not to be shared on any social media platform

Tournament(s) consists of 6 rounds

Each game will use Fischer timing

  • Start with 10 minutes + 5 seconds per move

Are there any roadworks on the way to the venue?

Check the Wokingham Borough Council - Roadworks site: https://www.wokingham.gov.uk/roads/roadworks paying special attention to the impact of the road closure (where Molly Millars Lane joins the Finchampstead Road) as part of the work for the South Wokingham Distributor Road

Where can I park?

Parking is available in the (free) public car park next to school and on the school playground

There is a Co-op convenience store and Londis located on the Finchampstead Road next to the school

Will refreshments be available on the day?

Tea, coffee and hot chocolate will be available free of charge. Snacks can be purchased from the local shops.

Most likely in classrooms (entry dependent)

Is there a room for parents / non-chess players?

Several rooms will be available to use, separate from the room being used to play chess

When should players be in the chess playing room?

Chess players should be seated at the board by 13.40 for a prompt start at 13:45

How will I check the player pairings and results

Pairings, results and cross tables will be published live online during the tournament to the UTU Swiss website @ http://results.utuswiss.co.uk/

How will I know where to go at the venue?

Signs in the car park next to the school will guide you onto the school site

What time should I arrive?

Please make sure you arrive by 13.30 as late arrives are very disruptive

What should I do when I arrive at the school?

Please use the the sign-in sheet at the school entrance to show that you have arrived
