BES Briefing: Cyber Attack! - SMEs are the target now
Thu 23 March 2017, 10:15 – 12:15 GMT
Business East Sussex is working together with Crowborough Chamber of Commerce to bring you the first of their BES Briefings. This is a free event open to all and we will welcome speaker Jason Fry from PAV i.t. Services.
Cyber Attack! - SMEs are the target now
The workshop uses interactive methods to highlight the current risks to SMEs posed by fraudsters and cyber criminals. It explores some of the current techniques such as Phishing and Vishing that are being used and provides valuable information on the most effective steps that companies can take to minimise the risk and protect themselves better through the adoption of good practice, policy and the right technology.
Cyber security can sometimes be daunting to SMEs, so the workshop uses language and examples that are easy-to-understand and remember.
Cyber attacks have become one of the biggest threats facing UK businesses with SMEs in particular seen as an easy target. Many companies are not taking the necessary steps to protect themselves as they mistakenly believe that it will not happen to them.
A Government Security Breaches Survey published in 2016 found that close to three quarters – 74% - of small to medium sized firms had reported a security breach in the last 12 months, an increase on 2013 and 2014's figures.
Jason Fry is the managing director of Sussex-based PAV i.t. Services. He works with national and local businesses, banks, insurers and legal service providers to help formulate strategies against cyber crime. He also regularly appears in the media to explain high-profile cyber attacks.
