BES Macro 2017

BES Macro 2017 is the annual meeting of the BES Macroecology (and macroevolution) SIG. This year we hope to highlight all kinds of macro-scale research, across diverse taxa and timescales. There will be six short plenary talks on a range of different topics designed to showcase the diversity of interests in our SIG. There will also be talk and poster slots.
ACCOMMODATION - IMPORTANT!
Accommodation in London is expensive and reasonably priced accommodation is limited. We recommend you book as soon as possible. You can book rooms in Imperial College student accomodation here (these are limited and will probably sell out fast):
There is also a Scouting Youth Hostel/Hotel next door to the museum called Baden Powell House which is convenient and reasonably priced:
There are also a number of other Youth Hostels, AirBnB apartments and rooms, and bookings.com is usually a good place to look for hotels. Earls Court is within walking distance and has some reasonably priced hotels. If anyone is interested in room/apartment sharing feel free to organise this via our Facebook page or Twitter.
TALKS AND POSTERS
We will have slots for talks and space for posters at the meeting. Talks will be 5 minutes long. There may not be enough talk slots for everyone, so priority will be given to early career researchers. Please include a rough title when you register so we have an idea of the balance of topics (you can change it later). Students will also be given the option to put themselves forward for the student plenary talk (20 minutes). Further details of this will be sent to students after the talk deadline passes. We highly recommend putting yourself forward, it's fun and a great thing to put on your CV :). We will email all students about this after the registration deadline.
On Wednesday night we will have drinks reception in the NHM, cosponsored by PalAss. On Thursday we will have a macro-themed quiz (with prizes) - we are still lining up a venue for this so there may be a small additional charge for this (<£5). On Friday afternoon we will organise tours of the Museum collections for anyone who is interested.
To cut costs we have not organised an official conference dinner. We will be providing lunch, coffee/tea etc. at the conference.
START and END TIMES
We plan to start with coffee around 10.30am on Weds, with the first talk at 11am to give people time to travel. The meeting will end at 3.30pm on Friday, followed by museum tours for anyone interested. Tours will be finished by 5pm.
The deadline for registration is 28th April 2017. We will contact attendees after this to confirm talk slots etc.
