Best Before Memory

Time: 2-4 pm
Location: Garden of Peach Taiwan Ramen 桃園樓
Cost: Free! With refreshments and light snacks provided.
Food carries memory, and memory carries belonging. Best Before Memory is an archive of ESEA voices, through everyday objects and their containers, preserved like leftovers. Living inside a fridge installation, each container in the fridge holds a story: of migration, family recipes, and homemaking.
Working with Hong Kong Korean Theatre Maker Isabella So and Thai Visual Artist Hathaikan Kongaunruan, we are looking for peer ESEA creatives to join this project and help us grow this archive, by creating your own container of stories.
How to get involved?
Bring one or more small domestic objects, packaging, and/or containers hat reminds you of your favourite food-related memories. Feel free to bring extra items—sometimes having more helps us capture more stories, even if we can’t use them all! At the workshop, guided by Isabella & Hathaikan, we will exchange recipes and recreate the stories linked to these items through 3D-scanning and upcycled model-making, engaging all five senses in the process.
How will your container of stories be used?
Your recreated stories will be digitally reimagined in Blender and 3D printed, creating “memory relics" that live inside each container, within an installation that inhabits a repurposed fridge. This fridge installation will be exhibited at the Beyond Conference Day 0 event on Monday 25th November, and made part of the University of Salford Art Collection.
