Bethnal Green in So Many Words

Bethnal Green’s story is one rich in variety. It is one of crime and poverty, but also one of resilience and survival. Despite phases of social change it displays a consistency born of its own character, and indeed its own folklore.
It is little wonder that many authors have sought to engage with the human currents of Bethnal Green and to capture its unique flavour.
This tour features readings from the writings of Iain Sinclair and George Orwell, as well as less familiar authors such as Alexander Baron and Arthur Morrison.
