At this year’s Dementia-Friendly Churches Conference, we’re going to hear from people living with dementia. Dementia Action Week this year reminded us that, “All it takes is a conversation to see that we’re still us”. As we listen to and learn from people with lived experience of dementia, how does this inform and shape our churches, as dementia-friendly churches at the heart of dementia-friendly communities?

Come along and join in conversations about:

Practical considerations, discussing “Practicalities – ways churches can get it wrong or get it right!”

This conversation with focus on the practical things that churches can do, that make a real difference. What are the things that help people living with dementia and what are the things that are difficult?

Church and community, discussing “Living normally - and how churches can help”

As we listen to the experience of people living with dementia, how does that shape who we are, as church in the community? This conversation will explore church being part of community and community being part of church.Groups and church, discussing “Dementia groups, as part of church life”

Groups and church, discussing “Dementia groups, as part of church life”

At Christ Church, Tettenhall Wood, there’s a monthly Dementia Carers’ Support Group. How do groups with a dementia focus make a difference, and how do groups link into church life?

Feelings and belonging at church, discussing “Drawn in or pushed away?”

This conversation will focus on feelings: what helps people living with dementia to feel they continue to belong in the church community and what makes them feel distanced from it? How hard is it to name dementia or to say that you’ve got dementia? What helps to create a trusted environment where people feel included and valued?
