Event description

Description

Climate Emergency! Something needs to be done, but why are we so slow to react? Why aren't "they" doing more? Why aren't "we" doing more?

Environmental knowledge and understanding lie at the heart of many of the most critical societal issues that face us in the 21st century.

In this talk Iain will use his experience of popularising geoscience for mainstream television to explore ways in which environmental scientists can better connect with a dissonant public. In doing so he will recommend more effective strategies for opening up discussion and meaningful engagement around environmental issues.

Iain Stewart has worked with BBC Television for over 15 years presenting programmes, including Earth: The Power of the Planet; How Earth Made Us, How To Grow A Planet, The Rise of the Continents and Planet Oil. He is Professor of Geoscience Communication at the University of Plymouth and holds a UNESCO Chair in Geoscience and Society.
