About this event

About this event

The purpose of the walk is to engage the community with some of the animal species that are missing from the Brook due to climate change and other human factors, or are critically endangered. Once you’ve completed the walk, visit our website to find out more about these species. Learn why they went missing or why are they endangered, and what we can do to prevent further loss and improve the biodiversity in the Brook.

The self-guided nature walk is aimed at the whole community and will involve downloading a pack, which will include a work sheet and a map, from the Barnes Common website (or picking up a hard copy from the Vine Road Recreation Ground Pavilion). Follow the map along the Beverley Brook, looking for cut-outs of missing species along the way. Write the names of the missing species on the worksheet and when finished, bring the completed worksheet to a staff member at the Pavilion at Vine Road Recreation Ground to collect your prize (or email it to us at website@barnescommon.org.uk).

This event is held as part of London Rivers Week, a week-long annual campaign inspiring the public to celebrate all of London's rivers and the many projects taking place to protect them (22-30 June 2024).

* Each ticket includes 1x Guide Sheet and 1x Prize. If you would like a prize for more than 1 person in your group please purchase additional tickets.

* If you are happy to share the Guide Sheet and Prize, please add additional free tickets - this helps us to monitor how many people take part.

* A download link will be shared with everyone who has booked, or printed activity sheets can be collected from Vine Road Pavilion weekdays 09.00-16.30.

* This activity is self-guided, and can be completed at any time. We encourage people to complete the activity during London Rivers Week (22-30 June 2024).

* Upon completion of the walk please visit Vine Road Pavilion to collect a badge as your prize.

Working in partnership with Richmond Council, Barnes Common Limited (BCL) a local independent charity oversees the stewardship of Barnes Common, the Leg o' Mutton Local Nature Reserve and Vine Road Recreation Ground (affectionately known as Vine Road Park).

Conservation has always been at the heart of all that we do and continues to be today. Whether we are preserving precious woodlands, creating important wildlife habitats, sowing seeds in our Community Growing area, introducing the community to the bats at Leg o' Mutton or engaging the community in our Lifelong Learning program, the Vine Road Project and Flood Resilience.
