SEND IASS is a unique organisation based in Bexley. We are an impartial and confidential service that has been commissioned to empower parent-carers of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Our goal is to help you understand your rights regarding your child or young person’s SEND.

Our team consists of independently trained professionals with extensive experience and knowledge in education, health, and social care. We operate at arm's length from the London Borough of Bexley. All staff members are trained and experienced advisors in SEND law and casework, holding the accredited IPSEA* Legal Level 3 training. Additionally, possessing up-to-date enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) certificates. All SEND IASS services operate free of charge for parent-carers of children and young people with SEND.

We are offering bookable, 121 free Information & Advice sessions for parents and carers of children and young people with SEND.

This is a valuable opportunity to discuss any education, health, or social care issues related to your child's SEND with the Bexley IASS team and receive expert advice.

Each individual Information & Advice session will last for 30 minutes.

Here are examples of enquiries you might bring to the session:

- Advice on SEN support in schools

- Information regarding Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) or the EHC needs assessment process

- Guidance on reduced timetables, exclusions, and Emotional-Based School Avoidance (EBSA)

- Understanding health diagnosis pathways

- Understanding the Individual Health Care Plan (IHP)

- Understanding personal budgets and direct payments

- Understanding the mediation and SEND tribunal process

PLEASE NOTE: We will have only 30 minutes for our meeting, so please fill out the Referral and Consent Form after booking your appointment. This will enable us to prepare for your meeting in advance. The link is below:

THANK YOU!

*IPSEA's accredited legal training aims to increase knowledge and understanding of the legal framework across Education, Health & Social Care in relation to SEND and the duties of local authorities, health providers, schools and colleges towards children and young people with SEND.

Frequently asked questions

Why do i have to complete the Bexley SEND IASS self Referral and Consent form?

It is important to IASS that we use the short time we have together effectively & you have all of your questions answered. Please allow us time to prepare the information you may need prior to the meeting by filling in the Self Referral & Consent form on the Bexley SEND IASS website. Thank you

Can I book a double session?

We would prefer you keep the booking to a single session to allow as many families as possible the opportunity to see IASS. We have allotted plenty of time to discuss your enquiry if you fill in the Self Referral & Consent form on the Bexley SEND IASS website before meeting us. Thank you

Should i bring along all my documents such as diagnosis, EHCP application, School reports etc....

Please don't ladden yourself down with lots of paperwork. If we agree to sense-check a document for you (such as a draft EHCP or letter to the school) we can do this after the meeting with you via email.

Should i bring my child to the meeting?

It isn't necessary to bring your child along. If however, your son or daughter is out of education and you don't have appropriate childcare, then yes.
