Uncharitable Festival is back! We have transformed #BAMEOnline conference into a festival running throughout October exploring racism in charity and philanthropy, strategies for resisting systems of oppression, and re-imagining pathways to liberation.

Beyond Empty Statements

In the last few weeks we have seen violent eruptions of racist, Islamphobic violence in the streets of the UK.

Muslims, asylum seekers and racialised people have been terrorised by the mobs on the street, demonised by the language in the media, and dehumanised by cruel government policy that criminalises their very existence.

In the face of ongoing systemic racism, and threats to the lives of racialised people, the charity sector responds with the usual statements: ‘We stand with you’ and ‘racism has no place in our society’ whilst digging their heels when tasked with making tangible, material, structural changes to dismantle oppression within their organisations.

Saying something has replaced doing something.

So what can organisations who are serious about racial justice do to resist oppression? Charity So White will be joined by organisations who are making real change through their actions, rather than symbolic. We will be sharing practical ways that charity workers can embed anti-racist practice into their culture, systems and processes, and how organisations can truly stand in solidarity with marginalised people.
