About this event
PG Connects and Helsinki Film Lab introduce new event linking the world of TV, film, music and more with games
- Connecting cross-media parties from video games, film, TV, music, animation, and beyond
- Featuring talks and panels on current and future challenges plus opportunities in the transmedial landscape
- Programme jointly curated by Helsinki Film Lab
The PG Connects conference series is excited to unveil its collaboration with the Helsinki Film Lab to bring some movie magic, animation insight and transmedia talk to the PG Connects Helsinki event on October 7.
Transmedia is one of the leading trends in the entertainment industry, from cross-media IP (with game titles such as Super Mario, Minecraft and Sonic topping box offices, Fallout and The Last of Us scooping TV awards, and more), to sharing technology or technical insight (Epic’s Unreal and Unity tech, we’re looking at you), and entirely new experiences that blend different streams like the metaverse.
Finland, and the wider Nordics, are at the heart of these developments, with Sega actively quoting transmedia as one of the reasons to buy Rovio – adding Angry Birds to its stable of Sonic, Yakuza, Streets of Rage and other film-friendly brands.
Meanwhile, the likes of Supercell are busy crossing all the streams to bring top talent like John Cena, Chris Hemsworth and Spongebob into crossovers and adverts for games, whilst also working on various plans to bring the Clashverse to different screens – with a Netflix animated series first up.
Running on its own stage, the summit will feature content tracks offering talks and panels with professionals and thought leaders from the transmedia sector. Gazing into a cross-medial future, discussions will revolve around challenges and opportunities relating to IP, shared technology, new business models, investment programmes, and plenty more.

Pocket Gamer Connects: THE games industry conference series
Pocket Gamer Connects launched in 2014, with the first-ever conference of this sort taking place in London that year, followed by Helsinki soon after. Well over 64,000 industry professionals have attended the PG Connects international conference series since 2014. The roadshow has also landed in the US, Canada, Hong Kong, Jordan, Dubai, India, Spain, and China with a genuinely international client base; on average, delegates from more than 45 countries attend each event.
In 2016, we became the biggest dedicated mobile games industry conference series in Europe and have stayed on top ever since. Not only have our previous delegates voted Connects the 'best value conference', but 97% would recommend it to a colleague, and 96% tell us they’ll come back for more.
Previous speakers and delegates from all the key industry players include Supercell, King, Tencent, Telltale, Apple, Rovio, Disney, Wargaming, Kabam, NTT Docomo, Ubisoft, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Gameloft, Sega, Capcom, Unity, Twitter, Twitch and many, many, many more.
