Event description

Description

The event engages with the local turn in peace-building. Professor David Chandler, Dr Aidan Hehir and Dr Nicolas Lemay-Hébert, engage in a roundtable debate with Dr Elisa Randazzo, author of a recent book on post-liberal approaches to peace-building Beyond Liberal Peacebuilding: A Critical Exploration of the Local Turn (London, Routledge, 2017). The book examines the trends that have led to the emergence of the local turn and raises critical points about the aims and operationalisation of this recent turn. The book suggests that all is not well with the post-liberal vision of peace-building from the bottom-up, and that far from ushering in a new era for peace-building theory and practice, the turn might be contributing to the emergence of a new orthodoxy in peace-building theory, which does little to re-think the premises of inclusion and exclusion that have so far characterised earlier engagements with post-conflict peace-building.
