Beyond the Basics: Sewing with Confidence.
Overview
This friendly, hands-on workshop is ideal for anyone who understands the basics of using their sewing machine but lacks confidence when it comes to actually making something or finishing a task like putting in a zip, sewing neat seams, or completing a project.
If you’ve ever thought “I know how to do this… I just want someone to check I’m doing it right”, this session is for you.
The focus is on building confidence, with a volunteer tutor on hand to offer guidance, answer questions, and provide support as you sew. You’ll work at your own pace, with help exactly when you need it.
The workshop will include:
- refreshers on threading, bobbins, and basic setup
- help with specific sewing tasks and tricky bits
- understanding stitches and settings for different jobs
- simple troubleshooting and confidence-boosting support
This workshop is designed for learning on your own sewing machine, so we strongly recommend bringing it along, along with the manual if you have it.
If you don’t have a machine, a limited number are available to borrow (please select Borrow a Sewing Machine at checkout).
This is an adult-only event. We suggest a donation of £10, or £5 for students and those on a low wage. Sessions typically last at least one hour, and we may contact you in advance about arrival times.
P.S. Don’t forget your power lead and foot pedal!
