Description

Have you been on the Learn to Knit workshop and aren't sure what to do next? Do you want to learn some of those fancy stitch things you hear about, or even just get more confident with your knit and purl? This workshop with Gwen Wagner-Adair, from Petitchoufleur Knits is the perfect way to increase your skills and develop your knitting repertoire. Using our lovely Dovestone dk yarn, you’ll learn the basics of a specific selection of stitches (as detailed below). Bring along your questions too – we’ll all learn from them!

During the workshop, we will cover the stitches and techniques used in the four squares of the pictured cushion. You will also learn how to do mattress stitch, so that you can seam your squares together when you’re done. You'll learn lots about reading knitting patterns, how to read a chart v. written instructions, how to ‘read’ your knitting, and also how to fix some common mistakes. The cushion pattern includes the pattern for a knitted back as well.

Skills covered:

  • How to read a pattern

  • How to read a chart and written instructions

  • How to read your knitting

  • How to fix common mistakes

  • Seaming/Sewing up (mattress stitch for both Stocking Stitch and Garter Stitch)

Stitch Patterns covered:

  • Knit and Purl stitch patterns (Moss Stitch and Checkerboard)

  • Slipped Stitches (Brick Stitch)

  • Mitred Squares (how to increase stitches)

  • Striping techniques

Pre-workshop Homework:

In order to practice seaming, you will need to knit four (4) little sample squares, using the Sample Information pattern which you can download here. Please bring these knitted squares with you to the workshop.
