Description

Join journalist Gary Younge in Bristol to explore Beyond the Blade, The Guardian’s award-winning series investigating knife crime and youth violence in the UK.

Guardian editor-at-large Gary Younge will host an open conversation about the causes of knife crime in Britain and what the solutions might be. The evening will feature a special keynote from Gary, screenings of films and clips from podcasts inspired by his reporting and a networking drinks reception.

Bristol is a city where knife crime is considered by its medical professionals to be a public health crisis. And like a disease, treating the surface symptoms does not always heal the underlying sources of pain. That’s why we recorded a podcast with support workers from Bristol who deal first-hand with young people struggling with the constant pressures they face today.

We are inviting you to join an inclusive discussion with key voices from the local community who have personal experiences with knife crime and are actively engaged in solutions. Speaking at the event will be Deputy Mayor Cllr Asher Craig. Join us as we talk about the blueprints of masculinity and the growing pressures experienced by young people. We will be building on the conversations started by Gary’s extensive reporting, and our films and podcasts, to talk about the role of media coverage and education in tackling knife crime.

Running time: 135 minutes, no interval.
