Event description
Powerful tools that will make you look at stories differently for the rest of your life!

About this event

We’ve all heard about the Hero’s Journey and the so-called mono-myth. But how often do we hear about other prominent story shapes?

You will get:

  • A short intro to storytelling from a neurobiological and psychological perspective that answers: Why do we tell stories? And how do we encode and use the universal story shapes?
  • A very close look at alternative story shapes, including the Hero's Journey and the Heroine's Journey
  • Time to improvise your own Journeys and discuss them afterwards!
  • Suggestions for further reading and watching if you wish to learn more about the Heroine's Journey and to get better at storytelling

We’ll mention examples from myth, literature, and film. We'll also touch on hidden messages and narrative conventions (as well as on their difference from stereotyping).

This is a workshop for improvisers, writers, and creators who want to tell better stories. You’ll get to play beautiful scenes, poignant scenes, funny scenes - and you'll leave with powerful alternative structures to look differently at stories for the rest of your life.

You'll get a link and instructions on how to join the class online on the day it begins.

This course is fully accessible for audio-only participants, and closed captioning is available. If you have other accommodations that could make this course more productive and enjoyable for you, please send us an email after purchasing a ticket.

Min. participants 4, max. participants 12. If we have to cancel the event due to low numbers, we will do so with a 24 hour notice.
