Our next Book Club is starting on Monday 8th April and will run on the 2nd Monday of every month. It will be hosted by Tyesha Nicholson at Este Kitchen, Greenbank, Bristol.
Tea, coffee and cake will be available to buy at the cafe.
Books are an amazing way to connect to our history. They allow us to experience the lives of others in situations we may recognise and show us characters who respond to their racial identity in complex and sincere ways. Each month we will choose a book that delves into mixed identity, from novels to memoirs and nonfiction, whatever the group feels like next! Conversations around race can often be framed in black and white, so the books we will choose from explore mixedness as a spectrum. It will be a very relaxed, open discussion, using the book’s themes to think about our own stories. Spoilers will be avoided, so if you haven’t had time to read it all, don’t worry!
The first book we will read is You Exist Too Much by Zaina Arafat. Copies are available at local libraries, or if you need support with purchasing a copy, please email hello@beyondthemix.org.
