About this event

Discover a different side to Battersea’s Nine Elms area on a walk led by Battersea poet and local history expert Hilaire.

Drawing on voices from the archives, the walk will highlight less well-known aspects of the area’s rich history and celebrate the local community’s resilience.

As we explore the area’s side streets, we will hear about the battle to save a children’s farm on a site now swallowed up by new buildings; stories of a former boozer where locals rubbed shoulders with rock stars; vivid first-hand accounts of heavy bombing during World War Two; and a sit-in by Asian women workers at a TV factory in the 1970s.

Meet outside Queenstown Road train station, SW8 4LP. The walk will last around two hours, and will finish at Battersea Power Station tube station.

The route is designed to be step free but please be aware some pavements may be uneven.

Free tickets available for carers
