About this event

London Met PGR Training 2020-21

Whilst the doctoral journey can often feels long and challenging, it can be incredibly rewarding and opens a wide range of employment opportunities.

In this workshop Professor Diana Stirbu will share her journey post-PhD and what is helpful in getting a job both: outside academia and inside academia, and also some reflections from working outside academia on consultancy.

Diana joined London Metropolitan University in April 2010 after obtaining a PhD in management and governance studies from the University of Liverpool Management School.

Since then, Diana has been an active researcher and educator in the fields of public policy and governance. Professor Stirbu often undertakes advisory and consultancy work in relation to the Welsh Parliament / Senedd Cymru, provides expert advice on constitutional and legislative matters and delivers bespoke executive training for overseas civil servants. She acted as an Independent Trustee for the Centre for Public Scrutiny between 2016 and 2019 and promotes the importance of scrutiny and accountability in the governance process. Diana works closely with the Institute of Welsh Affairs in order to support their policy and governance stream of work.

This session is addressed not only for those research students aiming toward the end of their doctoral journey, but also those in the early days of their PhD, who are planning their future career.

Session lead: Professor Diana Stirbu, School of Social Professions
