Description

We’ve spent six months exploring, discovering, thinking and learning about the future of (un)employment in our city and now it’s time to take action.

We invite you to join the Beyond (un)employment cohort for two hack days to collaboratively design, build, test and develop project ideas and system intelligence to help shape the future of our city.

The two Hack Days will be a culmination of the Beyond (un)employment learning circle, where the cohort will be doing some focused work on project ideas in response to the challenges and opportunities they have identified through their learning journey. The group are now seeking to build teams of passionate, energetic, thinkers and doers who can bring their skills, knowledge, ideas and connections for two days to help them move their ideas to the next stage.


Here are some of the project ideas that will be worked on over the two days:

Succession Planning for Small Businesses

What is the future of lifelong learning?

The biggest thing we know is that we don’t know what’s going to happen next. How do we – given this rapid changing future, learn how to learn and learn how to continue learning? If you’re interested in any of these ideas or generally passionate about doing something the future of work and (un)employment and can commit some time to participating in one or both of hack days on Friday 27 October and Friday 3 November, register to attend.


What you can expect on the hack days

Drawing inspiration from the world of design jams and hackathons, the Beyond (un)employment Birmingham Hack days will be a space of focused intense, collaborative activity to test and develop these ideas in a practical way. At the start of the day, you will join a group that is working on a project idea of your interest, led by a member of the Beyond (un)employment Birmingham cohort supported by the team from Impact Hub.


The agenda for the day will be very light and flexible and the goals, outcomes of the hack days will be self directed and driven by your group according to what you agree is achievable in the timeframe, however, teams will be coached and facilitated by Impact Hub Birmingham team to support you in moving your idea forward.
