Description


This workshop presented in partnership with BFI NETWORK & Screen Cornwall aims to give everyone the necessary tools and ideas to build and shape a screenplay. Primarily for writers, but is also a great opportunity for producers, directors and anyone involved in script development working across film and TV.

The workshop will run from 9:30am to 1pm, including a networking lunch.

Writers are also invited to apply for a smaller round table session from 1.30 - 4pm where you will get the chance to discuss your project with Kate Leys and receive peer feedback.

The afternoon session is by application only, please send a 1-page treatment of your idea and a current CV to info@screencornwall.com by Friday 6th September 2019 to be considered.

Kate Leys is a script & story editor who works in feature films and TV drama. She works with a wide range of screenwriters, filmmakers and producers in the UK and internationally. Recent completed productions include BENJAMIN by Simon Amstell, UK 2019; HOW TO FAKE A WAR by Rudolph Herzog, at Edinburgh Film Festival 2019; AMERICAN ANIMALS by Bart Layton, Sundance & worldwide 2018; PIN CUSHION by Deborah Haywood, which opened Critics Week at the Venice Film Festival in 2018; KINGDOM OF US, a feature doc, London Film Festival 2018 and on Netflix. BABY DONE for Piki Films in NZ is in currently in post; TORNADO for See-Saw Films will be in production in the Autumn.

TV drama series include THE VALHALLA MURDERS FOR Mystery Films and TrueNorth in Iceland; FIRST VICTIM in development in S Africa; JESUS CHRIST AIRLINES in development in Sweden and the UK; BABYLON by Jesse Armstrong & Sam Bain for C4 in the UK; and HOFF THE RECORD, winner of best comedy International Emmy 2016.

Kate runs masterclasses and workshops at the UK’s National Film School, the London Film School and the University of Manchester, and she speaks regularly at events including Bafta, the London Comedy Film Festival, the Edinburgh Film Festival, the Arvon Foundation, the BFI, the Institute of Contemporary Art and Film London Microwave. She also works with advertising agencies and brands on storytelling; and she works with the Wellcome Trust where she helped to establish and now chairs a Screenwriting Fellowship in partnership with the BFI and Film4.
