Who can attend the special yoga and sound bath class?

This class is designed specifically for women of African and Caribbean descent, welcoming both beginners and experienced yogis. It caters to all levels of experience, ensuring everyone can benefit from the practice. We also welcome those from LGBTQ+ community who are of African and Caribbean descent

What should I bring to the class?

Accepted Answer

You will need to bring a yoga mat, towel and light blanket and pillow for the sound bath. There will be no yoga equipment available at the Africa Centre. A journal or notebook is also advised so you can set intentions for your practice. You can also bring yoga blocks and a strap if needed.

What should I wear?

Accepted Answer

Wear comfortable, breathable clothing that allows for a full range of motion. Avoid overly loose clothing that might interfere with your practice.

How long is the class?

The yoga class is 60 minutes long, including a warm-up, the main practice, and a cool-down period. There will also be the chance for journalling and setting intentions for your practice. The sound bath with will about 45 mins.

Do I need to have previous yoga experience?

No previous experience is required for beginners. The class will offer modifications and variations for different skill levels, ensuring everyone can participate comfortably.

What if I have an injury or a medical condition?

Please inform the instructor before the class about any injuries or medical conditions. Modifications will be provided to ensure a safe practice for all participants.

Can I eat before the class?

Accepted Answer

It is advisable to eat at least 1-2 hours before the class to avoid discomfort during practice. A light snack, such as fruit or a smoothie, is ideal if you need to eat closer to class time.

Can I practice this class if I’m pregnant?

For this session, we would advise against this and recommend joining a specialist pre-natal yoga class.

Can I still participate in the sound healing if I have tinnitus?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can. Most people with tinnitus use sound in some way to ease their condition. The aim of sound healing is to help alter your perception of your tinnitus or your reaction to it.
