About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Celebrate bisexual awareness week this September with a two-hour welcoming and relaxed creative writing workshop.

This is a guided writing session designed around exploring our identities and experiences of bisexuality. It will be a safe and inclusive space lead by myself, a Manchester-based bisexual poet and host of the monthly Bi+ Poets group in Manchester.

We'll open with some short introductions and a little freewrite, then look at a few fabulous poems and other pieces of writing by bisexual writers, including poems from the anthology Bi+ Lines, and will be doing some of our own writing in response to bespoke writing exercises and prompts.

There'll be some specific stylistic prompts, but you'll always have the option to write in whatever style calls to you, whether that's poetry, storywriting, journalling, note-taking, letter writing, or just whatever comes.

We'll close with a sharing circle where you'll have the opportunity to share some of your creative work or any other thoughts from the day.

Social Refuge is a warm and welcoming Queer coffee and book shop in Ancoats - if you've not been before you're in for a treat.

While this workshop is aimed specifically at bisexual writers, it is open to friends and alies also. We are fully inclusive and trans friendly.

As a low income human I've come across pay barriers all my life; there are two ticket tiers available for this workshop, please do feel free to book the lower price if you need. If you'd like to come but still feel cost presents a barrier please get in touch and we'll sort something out :)
