Bibliotherapy – Bringing Books to Life!

13th May 2020, 10am (with registration from 9.30am) to 4.30pm

This one-day training course is for anyone who works with people living with dementia, family members or carers, to enable a different approach to keeping mental health healthy by sharing our personal stories through characters in literature and poetry.

Come and discover bibliotherapy, which is all about feeling good with books! Stories are medicine. They are embedded with instructions which guide us about the complexities of life. They have such power that they do not require us to DO, BE, ACT anything - we need only to listen.

Training aim:

The training aim is to promote the principles of best practice in providing bibliotherapy sessions, which allows us to share thoughts and feelings, through the connection of stories and poetry, that will enable all of you to bring books to life, run your own sessions and make the moment matter.

By the end of this training day participants will be able to:

  • provoke and promote memories through the use of bibliotherapy
  • choose appropriate material, and why it is appropriate
  • project and use your own voice through tone and language
  • understand the key elements of bibliotherapy and be confident when running a bibliotherapy session
