BIC Brunch: Ask the Experts - Thema Qualifiers (Part 2), The Technicalities
#bicbrunch
Introduction
Used to their full potential, Thema subject codes and qualifiers are powerful tools for helping readers find the books they’ll love. This BIC Brunch session provides an opportunity for attendees to find out everything they wanted to know about the in-depth technicalities and applications of Thema qualifiers.
Place, Language, Time Period, Educational Purpose, Interest and Styles - these are some of the Thema qualifiers available to help with the description, promotion and discoverability of printed and digital books. Do you know how and when to use them? How many to use? What benefits might qualifiers bring to your titles, your customers, your readers?
Following on from our Thema Qualifiers session in December 2025, we’re delighted to now bring a follow-up session which offers attendees an opportunity for a specialist deep-dive experience into the technicalities of Thema qualifiers. There will be no presentations, simply a 90-minute panel session dedicated to having Thema technical experts answer attendees’ questions.
Attendees are encouraged to submit their questions in advance (so that the panel can prepare). Instructions for doing this will be given during the ticket registration process. We will also be inviting live questions on the day too.
Please note, we won’t be able to respond to questions that ask the panel to classify individual titles, as the decision-making processes, and specific content knowledge for this will lie with your own organisation. However, we will be able to take questions on general principles, applications, advice, and guidance. The panel can talk in generalities but not about specific ISBNs.
All questions will be treated anonymously.
