About this Event

Emergency and unplanned admissions remain a significant challenge for NHS settings.

Over the last seven years respiratory admissions have risen at over three times the rate of other conditions. Hospital admissions are a cause of deconditioning among older people with 65% of older people experiencing a decline in function.

Older people with COPD have more than twice the increased prevalence of frailty than non-COPD older people. Respiratory conditions are one of the leading causes of excess winter deaths, with around 40% of excess winter deaths having respiratory as an underlying condition.

Speakers include:

  • Elaine Gossage, Lead Nurse - Knowsley Community Service, Liverpool Heart and Chest NHS Foundation Trust
  • Dr Stuart Berry , GP, Reedyford HealthCare
