About this event
About Big Bike Revival
This service is free for you to access.
It is funded by Cycling UK, using funding from UK Government.
The UK Government, Cycling UK, Super Slow Way and Breaking Cycles CIC share aims to:
- Encourage people who don’t cycle to have a go.
- Encourage people who don’t cycle much to cycle more.
- Encourage people to replace short car journeys with cycling.
- Ensure that the bikes people are riding are safe and fit for purpose.
- Educate people about safe and correct cycling strategies.
Cycling UK will email a short survey, which only takes a few minutes to complete, to participants shortly after you attend an event and around 3 months after that.
These surveys inform data which shows the impact of our work and justifies future funding for these free events. If you need more encouragement to provide an email address that you check regularly and fill in the survey, Cycling UK send out free gifts to everyone who fills in both surveys!

About Super Slow Way
The Super Slow Way offers free, family friendly activities all along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in East Lancashire, from Blackburn to Pendle, from canoeing to growing projects and art and music!
We have worked with our consortium partners over the last 10 years to carve out a role in East Lancashire, the wider county of Lancashire as well as nationally and internationally, as a cultural development agency that was previously lacking. We have increasingly developed our programming to address the needs of the communities with whom we work, to become a key strategic partner that works with organisations, artists, residents and local authorities to spotlight and enhance the cultural reputation of East Lancashire.
Our two key long-term projects – the Pennine Lancashire Linear Park and the British Textile Biennial (now a separate organisation) – are two of only a small number of core projects detailed in Lancashire County Council’s recently published Cultural Investment Strategy. These two core programme platforms bring together and elevate our embedded, long-term projects across our communities, providing national visibility, informing cultural strategy, and demonstrating that cultural productivity and active citizenship is flourishing across East Lancashire.

What to expect on the rides
These rides are intended for addults who are new to cycling or who havent riden for a while.
The Canal banks are a great place for people to gain confidence because of their lack of hills and traffic! We will expect to share the paths with other cyclists, walkers, dog walkers etc. so there is plenty of opportunity to learn or refamiliarise yourself with the skills needed to ride safely amongst other road (or trail) users.
We will ride at a sociable and inclusive pace. This will be determined by who books on. We will always accomodate the slowest rider, all that is required is that you can ride independently and have access to a bike.
Some rides will use Calypso Cafe as a destination and incorporate creative activities run by Super Slow Way.
