Cities are recently reshaping to achieve a wide variety of new demands for low carbon economy and high quality of life. To build smart sustainable cities, comprehensive urban informatics and mobile technologies integrated with Internet of Things and social computing are integral components. Internet of Things (IoT) is an emerging technology evolved from the convergence of legacy mobile systems such as wireless computer networking technologies, various ratio access technologies, embedded/sensor systems. Extensive research on IoT is taking place on urban sensing, energy harvesting technologies, cyber-physical communication, and mobile/multimedia big data analytics. Such extensive combination of IoT with legacy mobile infrastructure, various social media, sensor networks and extended data analytics facilitates a multidisciplinary approach for developing integrated solutions to establish smart sustainable cities. It supports smart city applications including people-centric seamless recommendation, smart buildings, intelligent transportations, smart indoor/outdoor navigations, and new art experiences.
