Description

Scientists and clinicians are generating ever increasing volumes of research information related to the causes and mechanisms of disease and the NHS generates an enormous amount of data everyday on patients in its care. Digital technology can harness this wealth of information offering major opportunities for healthcare research and clinical service delivery. In this seminar, two experts on the use of big data in health research will talk about their research and its potential to improve health outcomes.

Aldo Faisal is a Senior Lecturer in Neurotechnology jointly at the Department of Bioengineering and the Department of Computing at Imperial College London. He will discuss the engineering principles of machine learning and how that can be used to in Big Data health studies to solve major clinical challenges.

Erik Mayer is a Consultant Surgeon at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London and Chief Clinical Information Officer (Analytics & Informatics) at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He will present his translational research using large NHS data sets to improve care quality and patient safety.

Lunch will be served following the presentations.
