Description

Empower Society

Date: Thursday 7 November
Time: 5.30pm – 7pm
Venue: Room - University of Kent, Canterbury

What is Big Data?
How does it affect you; the decisions you make; the services you receive; and the environment that you live in? This autumn the Business and Local Government Data Research Centre (BLG) are running a free lecture series at the University of Kent. This will be open to the general public, private and public sector employees, university staff and students to attend. Come along to hear experts from the public and private sectors, and the world of academia explore what Big Data can do to enhance the environment, evolve business, and empower society! Speakers will discuss their views and experiences, and will then join a panel to answer audience queries.

Event details:
Extensive work is being carried out by researchers, local authorities, and private sector organisations to make better use of data to improve our day to day lives. Areas being transformed by Big Data include education; healthcare; social care; public sector services amongst others. On 7 November 2017, join us and our expert panel at the University of Kent, Canterbury Campus, as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Sciences, to hear how Big Data is playing a vital role in changing our lives. Professor Julien Forder, Director and Professor of Economics of Social Policy at the University of Kent, and joint lead on the supporting vulnerable people research stream at BLG, will lead this session and be joined by other experts in this field to discuss their views and experiences on the ways that Big Data can positively empower society.
