The national gathering of the Paraplanners Assembly – a community where professionals can learn, fix and share

About this event

For the first time in three years paraplanners from all over the country will be able to gather for real for the Paraplanners Assembly’s BIG DAY OUT from 0900 on 15 September 2022.

What’s more, on the eve of the main event – so that’s from 1900 on 14 September 2022 – we’ll be hosting THE BIG NIGHT IN.

For both events we’ll be gathering together at a breathtaking new destination – FarmED – right in the heart of the Cotswold countryside.

(Trust us, it’s lovely.)

Tickets for the BIG DAY OUT cost £30. Tickets for THE BIG NIGHT IN cost £20.

15 September: The Big Day Out / 0900-1700 / £30

For our first time together in years, we’re going for a blend of small group sessions – which we’re calling Crop Rotations – and all-together sessions. Here’s what we’re planning:

Crop Rotations: Morning

You’ll be able to pick from two of three sessions available

  • Creating a development plan and how to make it stick in real life
  • Communicating with advisers and planners
  • Paraplanning processes: how to spot the problems and fix them

Lunchtime drop-ins

We’re thinking about running informal drop-in sessions during the lunch break. One will be for those of you who are new to paraplanning. The other will be for participants who are considering outsourced paraplanning. We’ll be in touch to test appetite for these sessions in the run-up to the event.

Crop Rotations: Afternoon

You’ll be able to attend both of the afternoon’s Crop Rotations. We’re planning on bringing together expertise from seasoned paraplanners and the best brains from our supporters to contribute to both of these sessions:

  • Technical Q&A: a chance to share what you know and learn from each other
  • Reports: a perennial favourite with Assembly participants – you know the drill!

Special Assembly

We’ve not settled on the precise format for this session but we’ll be bringing everyone together for some kind of life-affirming exploration of all things paraplanning!

At the conclusion of our tenth national gathering there will be CAKE plus news of what’s coming up for the Assembly.

14 September: The Big Night In / 1900-2230 / £20

Join paraplanners gathering in the Cotswolds for an informal get-together on the eve of the Big Day Out – the Big Night In.

Hosted at FarmED, you’ll get the chance to catch up with old friends and meet new ones – all while tucking into a buffet of locally sourced fare rustled up in the canteen's kitchen.

What’s more, if the weather’s fine, you’ll get the chance to savour the sight of the setting sun across the Evenlode valley.

Included in the ticket price is complimentary transport from Chipping Norton town centre to FarmED (so long as you catch our bus, that is).

To join the Big Night In, just add it to your Big Day Out ticket when you reach the checkout.

Where can I stay?

Chipping Norton is the nearest town to FarmED and there are a number of hotels and pubs with rooms in the town centre – most offering a very reasonable range of rates if you book now. Here are the pick of the options:

Premier Inn

Kings Arms

Crown & Cushion

The Fox

We’ve been in touch with the Premier Inn – whose rates seemed pricier compared to the alternatives when we published this page – in case they’re able to do something about their prices.

Just outside Chipping Norton is the Cotswold Hotel and Spa.

If none of those take your fancy, try a search in Burford – where there’s a Travelodge – or Shipton-on-Wychwood, which is the village closest to FarmED and has a couple of good pubs with rooms.

What if I have dietary requirements?

We’ll be in touch closer to the event to check whether there are any foods you’d like to avoid for both the Big Day Out and the Big Night In. (By the way, because it’s a working farm, FarmED’s kitchen uses organic produce grown in its own fields so you’re in for the FRESHEST ingredients imaginable!)

I said I was interested in helping out. What's happening?

We're really grateful that you've offered to help and will be in touch as soon as we've fine-tuned the plan for the day.

How accessible is FarmED for people in wheelchairs or with other needs?

Our event will be taking place in FarmED’s award-winning buildings. There are no steps in or around any of the buildings, and both buildings have polished concrete flooring interiors and sit either side of a courtyard which is connected by a paved pathway. Wide side doors can be opened to assist wheelchair access. Assistance dogs are welcome in the buildings and around the farm. Water bowls are provided. There are two disabled car parking spaces next to the entrance of the main building.

What about COVID?

When we gather in September, we’ll be following the latest Government advice and social distancing guidelines. You can rest assured that the FarmED buildings will be fully cleaned before the Big Day Out and that face coverings and hand sanitiser will be available on site. The award-winning buildings are very spacious. In fact, they’re ideally designed for doors and windows to be fully opened to allow for fresh air circulation. Being in the countryside, if the weather’s good, there are lots of places to gather and talk outside too.

What is FarmED?

FarmED’s mission is to provide learning spaces and events that inspire, educate and connect people to build sustainable farming and food systems that nourish people and regenerate the planet. We think there are strong parallels with the Assembly’s approach to the world of professional advice so it’s no wonder we picked it – and we think you’ll love it.

What about the teepees?

After such a long time apart, have you found worky gatherings of more than a few people in real life a bit – how can we put it – intense? Mindful of this, we thought it was time for a bit of a departure for the Assembly. After the teepee years, plus trips to Paraplanners Paradise and Paraplanet during lockdown, we decided it’s time for the themes to take a backseat. Instead, we want to celebrate the simple pleasure of gathering together in person once again. But as well as allowing you to enjoy the ebb and flow of the event, our new venue gives you space to take a moment to yourself when you need – a destination that’s great for heart, soul and mind to learn, fix and share.

Photography at the event

Say cheese! We love a good a photo which is why we take them at our events to use in our promotions and advertising. Don’t be surprised if you spot a photographer or Powwow host lurking with a camera. If you do not want to appear in photographs that we publish online, please let us know when you arrive at the event (we'll remind everyone so no need for you to remember).

Not a paraplanner or administrator? Then the Big Day Out is not for you!

Assemblies are designed by paraplanners for paraplanners and we also welcome administrators, so if you are not one please don’t book a ticket. If you’re still really interested in coming along then get in touch with us at
