About this event

For the last few years, SCILT has offered the Big Question series of workshops in May/June, aimed at secondary practitioners and focused on looking at current issues, examining strategies and sharing resources. However, for 2025-26 the Big Question has become a year-round feast! We are offering one open access workshop per term, which started in May with session 1 on Interdisciplinary Learning.

The theme for the three remaining workshops is Developing a linguistic mindset. In these sessions we will consider what that means, why it matters and how we can create a learning environment which encourages it, to the benefit of our learners.

You may find this report useful in considering this concept.

Workshop 2: Producing Language

Wednesday 17 September 4.00 – 5.15

In this workshop we will discuss the notion of developing a linguistic mindset and how this can help our learners produce language with increased confidence, clarity and creativity. We will consider this with particular regard to talking, while also considering the implications for other skill areas. There will be lots of opportunity for discussion, hearing from practitioners and asking questions. Come and join us!

Look out for dates, further information and booking details for the other two Big Question workshops (Sneak preview! Workshop 3 title: Experiencing Language & Workshop 4 title: Celebrating Language) in the course of the session. Sign up to the SCILT e-bulletin here to make sure that you don’t miss out.

Seminars are free to attend and are open to all secondary languages teachers and student teachers.

The sessions will be hosted on MS Teams and will not be recorded.
