Event description

The Big Welsh Walk Challenge is back – and it’s bigger and better!

Following on from the success of last year’s inaugural challenge walk, we are thrilled to offer a #BigWelshWalk on Saturday 2 June 2018.

Join us to walk through the beautiful scenery of Devil's Bridge, enjoying the beauty of the Cambrian Way, and exploring the drama of the Ceredigion landscape.

Supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, this year’s event offers even more variety. We have led walks for those who may be first time walkers, or who prefer to let someone else do the navigating. There will also be new and longer self-guided routes - requiring map-reading skills, stamina and determination.

New to this year’s event is the inclusion of a section of Cambrian Way in each walk – a 291-mile long distance route from Cardiff to Conwy. Developed over 40 years ago, the Cambrian Way is currently undergoing a revival, with the Ramblers at the heart of promoting and improving this unique long distance path.

There are routes for all abilities and fitness levels; everyone can get involved. Come alone or with your friends, family, or colleagues, or your dog (although you may have to lift them over a few stiles!).

We're raising money to support the amazing work our volunteers do, repairing and protecting Welsh footpaths so that everyone can enjoy walking for pleasure and health.

Get involved

Taking part is easy - just select the route you'd like to walk and fill out your details in the form and we look forward to seeing you in Devil's Bridge.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

People under the age of 18 are welcome to attend accompanied by a responsible adult.

Do I need to be able to map-read?

If you are undertaking the 16 or 20 mile routes then yes, map reading skills will be essential. The route will be signposted at key junctures and you will be given a route card and description but some way-finding will be necessary.

Can I bring my dog to the event?

Yes, dogs are more than welcome to attend. All dogs must be kept on lead at all times. Please be aware that there are numerous stiles which your dog may need to be lifted over. The Big Welsh Walk takes place in an agricultural area and there will be livestock- the owner is responsible at all times for the dog. Please also be mindful of the length of challenge you and your dog are undertaking.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

We have plentiful free parking at base camp, Tynrhyd Retreat Devil's Bridge. Unfortunately there isn't a train or local bus nearby, the nearest being in Aberystwyth. Please check www.ramblers.org.uk/go-walking/big-welsh-walk.aspx for more information.

Can I update my registration information?

If you need to make any changes, please email bigwelshwalk@ramblers.org.uk.

Do I need to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes please, this will ease registration at the start of the challenge event. Don't worry if you forget it, we will have a full copy of those participating.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
