In the winter tens of thousands of ducks and waders visit the fields at West Sedgemoor. Along with the chance to see hunting marsh harriers and peregrine falcons and perhaps catch a glimpse of the Somerset cranes, this all makes for an unmissable experience!.

Additional information

When booking please provide a valid phone number and e-mail as your booking confirmation will be sent via e-mail. We need a valid phone number (landline and mobile) in case we need to get hold of you urgently to update you with changes/cancellation. Thank you for your co-operation

  • All tickets are non-refundable unless the event has been cancelled due to extreme weather. All bookings are accepted on this basis. Although every effort will be made to run the session the final decision will remain with the organisers
  • Meet at the RSPB West Sedgemoor Office yard at Dewlands Farm - TA100PH - at the bottom of Red Hill. 
  • What to bring: A large part of the walk is based on an open-side viewing platform so wear suitable clothing for the weather conditions, warm layers, hats & gloves etc, stout walking shoes/wellingtons are recommended. Feel free to bring a hot drink/flask. 
  • There are toilets at Dewlands Farm at the start and end of the walk.
  • Please note that dogs are not permitted on the walk or at Dewlands farm.
  • We ask you to arrive at Dewlands Farm at least 20 minutes before the start of the session to register with the walk leader.
  • Please note that the walk commences with a short but steep walk up Red Hill and across  some rough terrain to the viewing platform at Hambridge Barn, which takes about 20 minutes and is approximately half a mile in length.
  • Car parking - in the yard at Dewlands Farm.  Weekdays may be busy as this is a working site so please enter the yard with care.
  • Directions will be sent to you after booking is complete.
  • The walk will leave promptly at the stated start time and late comers may not be permitted on the walk.
  • Please note that West Sedgemoor and Hambridge Barn are not normally open to the public.
