Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Share nature’s home for the night at The Big Wild Sleepout!

RSPB NI is delighted to be returning to the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum in Cultra to camp out under the stars on Saturday, 22 July 2017.

The museum is the perfect place for families to try camping for the first time. Toilet facilities, 24 hour security and designated safe spaces to cook your own food and set up camp mean you can get on with just having fun!

Gates open at 2pm and activities begin at 5pm sharp! There’ll be something to keep all ages entertained, from mini-beast hunting to bat detecting*, bushcrafts to stargazing. *Please note that bat detecting sessions are only suitable for children aged seven and over.

Campers can also gain entry to the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum the next day with a 50% discount!

Tickets are priced at £20 for adults and £17 for children (aged four to 16). Kids under four go completely free.

All money raised through this event will go directly into giving nature a home in Northern Ireland.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Free car parking is available at the lower level of the museum site during registration. Don't worry - we'll label all your belongings and shuttle them to the top for your convenience. With this in mind, please pack your kit into as few bags as possible.

Motorhome parking is also available at the lower level but, due to health and safety stipulations, it's not permitted to sleep overnight in your vehicle.

Once the museum has closed to the general public, limited parking is available at the top entrance level.

The Ulster Folk and Transport Museum can also be reached by bus and train. Please contact Translink on 028 9066 6630 for up-to-date timetable information.

What should I do when I arrive?

Gates will open at 2pm. Please do not arrive before 2pm as entry will not be permitted and parking may not be available. Follow the signs for the Folk Park where you will be directed to the lower car park. If you wish to camp beside another family or group, you must arrive together.

Head to the registration table where we'll check you in and allocate you a camping pitch. After a short walk to the upper car park you'll be met by more members of the Big Wild Sleepout team to receive colour coded wristbands and information on the evening’s activities. It is important that everyone keeps these bracelets on to gain access to the activities. You will then be guided to your camping zone where all your gear will be waiting for you.

What should I bring into the event?

There won't be any equipment available to borrow or buy at the event, so please make sure you have everything you need.

A tent (and pegs!)

Insulation - ground cover and mats

Sleeping bags and extra layers

As the museum is reflective of a Victorian town, there is limited street lighting, so we recommend bringing torches or headlamps.

No food is provided at this event, although the on-site cafe will operate during normal museum hours.

There will be set areas for cooking, be that BBQs or portable gas rings, as no naked flames are permitted in camping areas.

RSPB NI will have tea/coffee and hot chocolate for sale in the courtyard area on Saturday evening. Hot water is also available for baby bottles etc.

As this is a family event, alcohol is not permitted on site.

What's the refund policy?

Should you need to cancel your booking, we can provide refunds up to 48 hours before the event start time. Should we have to re-schedule the event due to bad weather, all ticket sales are transferrable to the new date or a full refund can be given.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes, or an e-ticket in the Eventbrite app.

How can I contact you with any questions?
